  • Wellness Symposium

The Wellness Symposium explores the root causes of pathologies in communities of color. The CEJJES Institute organizes a Wellness Symposium that will be specifically targeted towards mental health service providers, educators and parents. CEJJES collaborates with many local agencies to organize The Wellness Symposium. This event is an opportunity to engage with service providers who aid communities of color, children, women and the underrepresented. Educators, parents, leaders of faith-based and community organizations are encouraged to attend.

Past Symposium Speakers: A.J. Franklin and Joy DeGruy-Leary

    Fall 2011 Symposium

    Date TBD

The day will include a conversation with Dr. Edmund W. Gordon and other invited guest as well as, discussions surrounding black youth and in particular black males. In addition, there will be a conversation regarding the legacy of psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark who conducted the famous black and white doll experiments during the 1940’s.

The Clark’s conducted important research among children and were active in the Civil Rights Movement. They founded the Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem and the organization Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited. An exhibit that highlights the history of their work and lives together will be on display.
