  • Mission & Goals

The Comprehensive Education and Family Resource Centers’ mission is to enable families and other community members to encourage and support all students as they engage in educational activities that contribute to the development of high levels of mental ability similar to the abilities of college students. The Centers approach this mission comprehensively, i.e. through teaching and learning in-school and out-of-school (in families, schools and communities), through health maintenance, early exposure to rigorous academic experiences, completion of high school, college attendance and completion, life skills development for adults, and through cooperative community economic development.

It is the Centers’ goal to achieve this by:

    • Increasing parental support for academic and personal development of children
    • Helping parents develop functional competencies and personal empowerment
    • Increasing a sense of community membership and involvement
    • Increasing the availability and accessibility of resources (education, childcare, mental and physical health, etc.)

    Our Goals

Students will grow to become well-adjusted, independent, critical thinkers as they enhance their intellective competencies. Children as well as their parents will be empowered to become strong responsible citizens in control of their academic experiences. As a result of these efforts the centers will:

    • Increase students’ academic performance
    • Increase students’ motivation to learn
    • Increase development of academic learning behaviors and study skills
    • Increase positive social skills and interactions between peers and adults
    • Increase the competence of parents as advocates for the academic and personal development of children.
    • Parents will have the tools necessary to provide a supportive at home environment which fosters achievement and a love of learning.
    • Parents will feel confident in establishing appropriate parameters that encourage their child to excel academically.
    • Parents will have a clearer knowledge of the American cultures and how their own culture may impact their child’s educational experience.
    • Parents will develop a personal plan of excellence with clear goals.
    • Parents will be encouraged to return to the Resource Center to utilize available resources that may assist them in attaining these goals.
    • Parents will have a clear understanding of the college application process including procedures involving admissions, financial aid, loans, tours, interviews, etc
